Determination of azocolorants per requirements of European Commission Directive 2002/61/EC has been lately clarified with the new Commission Directive 2004/21/EC where a “List of testing methods” was added to the Appendix of the Directive 2002/61/EC as follows: * D; v- r5 m( N- U/ s

8 e1 w; K6 e+ SThere is no change in the testing method for determination of certain azo colourants in dyed leathers. Same procedure is carried out for all leather toys and toys which included leather garments. / `# O; q7 }" |! I+ n- e8 S8 k

Part 1: Detection of the use of certain azo colorants accessible without extractions is used for the 3 main groups of fiber as listed below:

Ø      Cellulose fiber – Cotton, Ramie & Linen,  7 H, z* R. l2 r0 e% G, O6 y* d

Ø      Animal fiber – Wool, Angora & Cashmere,  1 j; s1 @5 a1 ~8 j7 [

Part 2: Detection of the use of the certain azo colorants accessible by extracting the fibres is used for group of Synthetic fiber: - w% ?% h$ l: ^# g" f; ]& O8 s3 f$ a

) N0 i  s$ y1 t$ z/ s: U( }Ø      Synthetic fiber – Polyester, Nylon, Polypropylene Spandex, Acrylic & PU. ! F& j% f+ r" K: w, Z; K

Components of all mixed textile fibres should be provided for ease of identification to select the appropriate test method if only EN14362-1:2003 or EN14362-2:2003 or both are applicable.

For example:

1) A sample of textile material made of 60% Linen & 40% Wool – Only Part 1 is applied.

$ s( |$ M+ [0 k2) A sample of textile material made of 50% Nylon & 50% Acrylic – Only Part 2 is applied.

3) A sample of textile material made of 70% Polyester & 30% Cotton – Part 1 and Part 2 are applied. ! g$ ]4 }  f7 r" l4 p
